The smartphone gets smarter

Use of digital currencies is set to become more seamless

Sirin Labs and Foxconn will develop the Finney, the world’s first blockchain phone that will allow people to store and use digital currencies with no transaction fees. There will be no need to carry USB sticks along with digital wallets.

As the popularity of digital crypto-currencies continues, this provides a much simpler way to manage accounts, however it will be interesting to see if such technology extends to mainstream smartphone platforms. After all, just buying a phone for its blockchain capabilities sounds like something of a niche proposition!

Full steam ahead for household outsourcing opportunities

Popular online job marketplace gets a boost from two major retailers

Coles and IKEA have partnered with online job marketplace, Airtasker, for a service where shoppers could use the job site to hire someone to buy and deliver groceries or to help build their furniture. Initial trials in NSW were successful and the companies will now be rolling out the services Australia-wide.

This is a good example of using an existing service to take it to the next level of commercialisation. These are often mundane and time consuming tasks that more people are keen on outsourcing. Think of the potential amount of hours saved from assembling flatpacks, only to find something’s around the wrong way (I’m possibly guilty here!).

Hello, this is your pizza assistant speaking...

Dominos Pizza’s DOM has its responsibilities extended to answer phone calls

Global pizza chain Domino’s has just extended the capability of its virtual assistant tool DOM (initially launched in 2014) to take phone calls about orders and follow-ups. It has been trialled so far in 20 stores and is set to expand in the next few months.

An interesting take on the usual virtual assistant to blend text and voice capabilities to help people ensure their all-important pizza deliveries are on time!
