Uber for home-cooking

Online marketplace for home-made cooking launched in Australia

FoodByUs is a new online marketplace platform for home cooked and small batch food. The founders call it “Uber for home cooking”. The vendors – home cooks or small food business owners – are able to cook the food they want and set their prices. Every purchase is rated by the buyer to maintain the quality. The service is currently only available in Sydney, but will be in Melbourne by the end of the year.

Pepper-drone-y pizza

Pizza delivery via drones looking more plausible

Domino’s has successfully demonstrated a pizza delivery via a drone in New Zealand. The drones are expected to fly at up to 30 km/h, up to 60 metres in the air to avoid power lines, and will initially only fly up to a 1.5km distance from stores, although this is expected to increase to 10km over time. Potential markets for expansion of the service include Australia, Belgium, France, The Netherlands, Japan and Germany.

Look forward to fair fees

An end to excessive payment surcharges

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has now enforced the legislation passed by the federal government in February that prevents large businesses from charging excessive fees on credit cards. There will be another 12 months until smaller merchants are required to comply.
